Allied Grape Growers is a California wine grape marketing cooperative with nearly 6000 grower-members located in major wine grape regions of California.  The association exists for the purpose of efficient and competitive marketing of its members’ grapes as well as offering marketing services for non-members.  We maintain direct lines of year-round communication with our growers and vintners for a better understanding of market conditions and opportunities.

Job Description:

We are looking for an active and energetic viticulture tech to assist the North Coast grower relations team for the duration of the 2024 harvest season. Our office is located in Healdsburg, but your time will be spent monitoring and collecting field samples for analysis while working closely with the North Coast AGG team to help facilitate this year’s harvest.  Territories are assigned out of the five California North Coast wine grape growing districts; Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma, Napa and Solano counties.

REQUIREMENTS:
A degree in viticulture, enology or related college degree is highly desired. The position requires working under minimal supervision during weekday hours in summer/fall weather conditions, visiting our grower’s vineyards to collect field samples. Your own transportation and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.  This job involves driving to and walking/scouting through vineyard sites with varied agricultural terrain.  Workdays start at, or close to, daybreak when the grapes are still cool.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor contracted vineyards for pests, diseases, and other cultural practices associated with viticulture and report concerns to grower relations team.
  • Conduct daily berry/cluster sampling of wine grapes at grower’s vineyard blocks at all assigned locations in the period leading up to and during harvest (training provided).
  • Assist in collecting data for estimating crop yields (vine harvesting, cluster counting and weighing).
  • Use provided refractometer to measure sugar content of wine grapes (training provided).
  • Act as lead sampler for all vineyards and assist management with organizing results.
  • Identify sampling areas at each vineyard.
  • Assist in coordinating sampling schedule and monitoring vineyard conditions for potential harvest problems, reporting any observed concerns at vineyards to grower relations team.
  • Communicate daily via emails, texts, and phone calls with grower relations team to provide the information for team to track vineyard block maturity and estimated harvest date.

Both part-time positions and 40-hour/week positions available:

  • Desired start dates beginning July 15th
  • Spanish speaking skills and a great sense of humor are a bonus.
  • Salaries DOE (average $25.00/hr. starting, with weekly mileage reimbursement)
